The BORON FluLab is part of the Department of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland. Our main focus is the synthesis of fluorescent dyes and the tuning of their properties, including tunable fluorescence quantum yield, two-photon absorption, and precise control over the position of the emission band. The dyes obtained in our laboratory are dipolar and quadrupolar, and both topologies are investigated for potential applications in bioimaging. We are also working on the non-fluorescent or weakly fluorescent molecules to make those being more effective. The synthesis of strained fluorophores is also an interesting topic we work on.

Our research group is made up of motivated young scientists who aim not only to understand organic chemistry, but also each other.
Current members
Borys Ośmiałowski, prof. (Photo by Andrzej Romański) mail: borys.osmialowski@umk.pl

PI in the group, working in the field of synthesis of fluorescent dyes, supramolecular chemistry and in general structural organic chemistry. Except for short term visits in several universities he was a post-doc in prof. Jay S. Siegel and prof. Kim Baldridge groups in Zuerich, Switzerland (supported by the Foundation for Polish Science) and in Gratz with prof. Walter Fabian. More details can be found here.
Patryk Rybczyński, PhD (Photo by Andrzej Romański) mail: patryb@umk.pl

Patryk, awarded the START scholarship from Foundation for Polish Science, is working on the synthesis of isomeric benzotiazoles substituted with extreme donor and acceptor groups. His research is supported by National Science Centre, Poland in the framework of MINIATURA.
